Research
MPW: 29.09.25
- [15] lists a household led by Nancy P. Bruce with the other adult being Mary E. Montgomery. I’m assuming Mary is Nancy’s daughter, thus with maiden name Bruce, but this is really only an assumption. Further research would be necessayr to confirm this mother / daughter relationship.
- However, [19] explicitly states that William B Montgomery’s mother’s maiden name was Bruce.

Uncertain whether [29] is for this Mary E. Mongomery and daugher Annie McCormick.
Mary E:
- the age 72 matchee
- married 10 years is not possibly to verify because I don’t (yet) know when John Montgomery died
- 5 children does not match the four children I knoe, but maybe I’m missing one
- 2 surviving children would match William Bruce and Indiana
- father born in Indiana doesn’t match the other information I have, i.e., either Kentucky or Ohio
- mothe born in Kentucky matches
Annie McCormick
- the last name matches the known married name
- “Annie” could be a nickname for “Indiana”
- age “40” is 10 years too young for the Indiana Montgomoery in this family file
- married 5 years doesn’t really match because Indiana would have been married 10 years in 1910
- parents both being born in Indiana matches
NOTE: [29] is a census in Oklahoma. This is interesting because it might mean that Mary Montgomery and her daughter stopped for a while in Oklahoma before they moved from Indiana to California.

General argumentation for family relationships:
- 1850 census with her parents and sibling in Indiana provide approximate birth year and family members. A weak spot here is that maybe there are other Mary E Bruces born with these details.
- 1855 marriage record in Indiana provides husband’s name and is shortly before first child. A weak spot is that no ages or parents are mentioned for groom and bride.
- 1860 census with her husband and children in Indiana provide her approximate birth year and names of known family members.
- 1880, 1910 and 1920 censuses provide approximate her approcimate birth year, birth state and names of some family members.
